Title: Systems Administrator

Syscom Technologies is seeking a System Administrator with a solid understanding of VMware, Windows-based operating systems and other Microsoft Infrastructure Products (Exchange, CRM, Dynamics AX). The environment is primarily a VMware environment. Will maintain about 8 production servers (some with multiple VM’s, and about 40 desktops/laptops in the company (wwe have several remote offices).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Administer all production servers and applications, including server upgrades, backups, user provisioning, e-mail provisioning, security, etc.
2 Administer all network systems including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
3 Provide desktop/laptop support for all employees in the field.
4 Be responsible for hardware lifecycle management of all IT equipment including servers, laptops, desktops, switches, routers, printers, etc. This includes managing service repair calls for equipment and procuring new hardware when necessary.
5 Manage relationships with hardware/software vendors. Negotiate new contracts and pricing for hardware/software. Be responsible for managing RFPs and proposals for new hardware.
6 Identify, research, and resolve technical problems
7 Document, track, and monitor problems to ensure a timely resolution
8 Develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery plans.
9 Provide input to company IT strategy to ensure that information technology is being used to create value and drive growth rather than exist as a cost center.
REQUIREMENTS:
1 A minimum of 5 years working experience and intimate proficiency with Microsoft Exchange 2003 administration and troubleshooting in a large-scale environment.
2 Veritas Backup Exec experience highly desirable.
3 Experience supporting mobile email devices such as Blackberry and iPhone.
4 Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management.
5 The ability to work independently along with complex problem solving ability.
6 Strong documentation skills.
7 Should be comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printer systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software.
8 A solid understanding of Windows Server operating system and Active Directory; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions).
9 Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; working knowledge of NFS/SMB/FTP/SSH & HTTP; configure and administer DHCP and DNS; manage multiple domains; understands basic routing concepts.
10 Significant programming background in any applicable language.
11 Three to five years of system administration experience.
12 A degree in computer science or a related field preferred.
